Do you go to Taco Ria in Bucheon? If so, I think I might have seen you.  Great blog, especially about the Pokemon stuff.

  • I've only been to Taco Ria once, but I guess it's possible that you saw me.  I went on Cinco de Mayo, if that helps.  I should probably go more often since it's not too far.

Do you watch Korean movies?

  • No I don't. I don't really watch movies for reasons that I've covered before. However, there are a few Korean movies that I do want to watch. I'll probably get around to them at some point. Probably when I get a DVD player or something.

I heard you are popular, can I have your autograph?

  • Yeah, I'll sign your mousepad.

How happy are you in Korea? How happy are you going to be without Robyn and Julia?

  • I'm very happy in Korea. I will be a lot less happy when they're gone.

Who is your favorite Chinese girl in LA? :)

  • Tiffany Fan

Given that success is 100%, money not an issue- what is your greatest dream/desire/pursuit?

  • To be honest, I would get married, buy a big house, raise a family, and live a long and happy life.

ahh i see i see around 8 months? I came here in july but i gottah leave next time -.-;;;; it was nice while it last~ since you dont think you seen enough, where else in korea do you wanna go? & damn. thats intense bout your search for your friend~

  • I still haven't been to Busan or Jeju. There's still a lot of Seoul left to be explored.

and i ran out of room to write lol. but yeahh i hope you find her soon~ do you plan on staying in korea for a while? and where in seoul are you if thats where you are?

  • Before we go any further, I have to tell you that the story about me finding a friend is fake. I made it up because people kept asking me why I came to Korea and I decided to continue it because I thought it was funny.
  • I'm planning on staying in Korea for a little bit longer. I currently live in Incheon but I'm planning on moving to Seoul in September. I haven't really decided how long I'll be there though.

What are your thoughts on David Thorne?

  • I could do that shit.

did you ever find your friend here in korea??

  • If you're talking about this one, then no. The first thing I did was go to the return address on the letters she sent. This took me to Bundang. When I told the cab driver where to take me, he just showed me a really confused look. Although I couldn't understand him very well, I was able to gather that those apartments were demolished in 2005. This doesn't make much sense because even the last letter I got from my friend in December 2008 had those apartments listed as the return address. Anyway, he knew where they used to be, so I had him take me there anyway so I could see for myself. The apartments were demolished to make way for a Home Plus. Dismayed, I walked into Bundang Central Park, which was right next to where the apartments used to be. While there, I noticed the playground. This is because that playground was the background of a polaroid picture she sent me in the summer of 2008 with the caption, "I come here to think all the time." I'm not sure what to do next. All I learned from the trip is that I know she didn't want me to know where she was living or that she couldn't tell me. She was probably still living in Bundang because she said that she went to the park all the time, but if she was lying about where she lived, she could have been lying about that too. The only thing I do really know is that I still have a lot of questions to ask and nowhere to go to get them answered.

Seriously... I have way too much time, but I'll see how long I'll keep up this dumb story.

I LIKE YOUR BLOG!! its so entertaining. even though im also in korea, i dont think i experienced or seen as much things as you ;o!!! keeeeep updating!

  • Thanks. To be honest, I don't think I see enough. There's still a lot of shit I haven't done, but now that it's warming up, I'll probably get around to it.

how long have you been in korea so far? do you like it here?

  • I've now been in Korea a little over 8 months and I have to say that I love it. I guess there isn't any particular reason why, but I'm enjoying myself.

Have you ever seen a gigantic teddy bear wearing underwear?

  • I have and it's hilarious.

Did you ever hang out with the gas station girl?

  • Er, I'm not entirely sure who you're talking about. If you're talking about the girl who works at the mini-mart down the street, then no. My phone stopped working the week we were supposed to hang out so that never panned out. It also looks like she stopped working the graveyard shift, so I don't really see her anymore. If you're talking about the girl who works at a gas station, then no, since I've never talked to a girl that works at a gas station.

  • There's a lot of places that I want to see while I'm here in Korea. I'm not sure where I want to go the most, but China is probably my next destination.

  • Ash Ketchum.

Can I have your kidney?

  • If this is Laura, then yes, you can have my kidney. If you're anyone else, then sorry, it's reserved for Laura.

Fievel Goes West or Land Before Time?

  • Land Before Time, hands down. I don't even know why you bothered asking.

Did we say anything about muthafuckin Songdo?

  • Nah, we don't even need to say anything. Motha fuckas already know.

Does it bother you that you seem to be getting increasingly random/nonsensical questions? Would you prefer if people were asking real questions about you, or are these just as fun?

  • The questions themselves don't really bother me. It was bothersome having my blog cluttered with all these questions. I even deleted some yesterday because I didn't think they were worth posting. I feel bad about it now, because I realized that I can just make a post answering all the questions like this one. So for now on, they'll all be answered in one post just like this. Questions will be answered weekly or bi-weekly depending on how many questions I get.

Why did you choose Korea?

Ooh. It's my first real formspring reply. It's all so exciting. The first question I answered was a test question that I had my brother ask.

The answer to this question isn't a simple one. I didn't really choose Korea, it just turned out that way. At community college I figured that I would finish my two years, go to a university for two years, and then straight for a teaching credential. However, after getting into UCLA, I realized that I wanted to go abroad for a while before really cracking down and pursuing a career. There wasn't anywhere in particular that I wanted to go. I just knew that I wanted to leave the United States for a bit. I learned about teaching English in Japan with the JET Program from someone and figured that would be a reasonable option. I mean, I like anime, Japanese food, and giant robots.

However, a little over a year ago, while I was busy trying to finish college with the least amount of effort possible, I realized that I ended up missing the deadline for the JET application. I didn't think about it too much at the time, but as graduation approached I figured that I should make some money or something. Applying to school again wasn't in the question, since I also missed all the deadlines for that. Instead, I applied for a few jobs in China because I thought it'd be a cool place to go. I got turned down from those for not having enough experience. I learned about teaching English in Korea through my friend Alex who was already starting the application process. Actually, I didn't even apply for Korea when I heard that's what he was going to, but continued my daily craigslist searches for jobs abroad and in the country. I stumbled on Teach Away through my job hunting and got in contact with them about working abroad. I sent them my resume and they said I'd be able to get a job in Korea. I guess that's when I really decided to go. I started the application process with them. I didn't actually realize that they were recruiting for EPIK until later, so it just turned out that I was applying for the same job as Alex. The rest of that story is me basically finishing the application process and waiting to see if I got the job or not.

So, it all worked out in the end. Working in Korea just worked out. It's not as if I was opposed to the idea of coming to Korea either. I liked Korean food and knew a little bit about it from Korea-American friends. However, I do understand why people ask me this question. Korea's not a really big tourist destination and people know less about it than China or Japan. However, knowing what I know about Korea now, I probably would have applied for this program first. It would have been a lot easier than trying to find a different job.

Formspring

I just made a formspring. If you're unfamiliar with it, it's an anonymous question box service. Basically, just ask me a question and I'll answer.
